All we good know Lenz Read Through principal, embedded into Lenz Gold H0 decoders.
This principle allow to read DCC commands via capacitive link and allow excellent command fullfillment even being on very dirty track:

This is well known Clip:

Now i test N-Scale Lenz Gold MINI decoders.
I obtain excellent results only when one of rail cowered by paper.
I use 9v battery instead powerpack to demonstrate effect.

My clips:

1) Left rail:

2) Right rail:

Results is not stable when i cower both rails by paper.
But even working on one rail covered - excellent thing for N-Scale!

QUESTION:
1) Which decoders of other manufacturers can do the same?

I test Zimo MX620 with powerpack, but obtain no results.

Hi Vadim,
nearly every decoder can be backuped by a capacitor. You only need to connect it to Ground and Plus on the decoder. But i never tested what happens if you disconnect one rail. Don't know if they still receive commands.

But in my opinion the whole story is kind of theoretically, as there is no N-loco which could carry enough µF for powering decoder and motor. Maybe with a double traction with one loco being a dummy stuffed with capacitors and coupled electrically.. But in this case it would be more simple to connect the wheels of the dummy to the powered loco.

Hi Vadim!

Do I understand you correct:
Instead of power from track you used a 9V-Battery connected directly to the decoders RED and BLACK or the left and right pickup?
If this tis true you created a battery driven toy and it will even run on the table without tracks.

Mathi
Hi,

Zitat

1) Which decoders of other manufacturers can do the same?

I guess none because AFAIK this is blocked by one of Lenz' strange patents.

I for one have tested Lenz Mini Gold w/o success even with Lenz Power Pack 1. I have covered one track with adhesive tape and the decoder failed the test alhtough the switching regulator inside the power pack heated up slightly reflection motor power consumption during normal operation on dirty track.

Maybe this has been improved either in newer firmware revisions or for the Gold+ series, however I have not had time to check into this.

Peter
Hello msfrog
I made at BR101 loco  PowerPack with 3520mkf.
See picture :

2) http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/5209/vadimav.5/0_552db_4d0f78a2_L

This capacity allow to ride over than 1 santimeter without pickup. It sufficiently enough to ride over dustly dirty  track.

But for continuing demo i used 9V battery.

Hello Mathi

Battery will be soldered to PowerPack contacts of Lenz Gold Mini.
See page 5 there how to connect: http://www.lenz-elektronik.de/pdf/b_10410_def.pdf

This loco cannot receive DCC commands if loco will havent enough  capacitive link with rails.
It will work only when one of two rails will be isolated by paper.
If I will isolate both rails -  Lenz Gold Mini  cannot work.  Lenz Gold for H0 Works with both isolated rails.  Probably it has pre-amplifier for DCC.

Hello Peter
It must work. Please check circuitry. May be, powerpack is cracked.
