Bin gerade via den Modellauto-Thread auf diesen US-Anbieter gestossen:

Das sieht doch sehr interessant aus - muss wohl einer dieser 3D-Drucker für Zahnärzte sein. Aber die Jungs bieten das speziell für die Modellbahn an. Hat das schonmal jemand ausprobiert?

Pardon my English reply... I've had some experience with Makemymodel.com - the models require a lot of sanding to finish - and special care to paint. Also their webpage/catalog has not changed in 2 years, so I'd check before ordering!

OK, if the site hasn't evolved over more than two years, they might have gotten stuck somewhere in the middle of their project.
But the idea itself is simply great! Aren't there any professional providers of rapid prototyping who might be interested in offering their services to us (end-) users? I could think of hundreds of applications, as our interests are so diverse and the required production numbers quite limited in each case.

OK, falls die Seite über mehr als 2 Jahre nicht erneuert wurde, sind sie vielleicht mit ihrem Projekt auf halbem Weg stecken geblieben.
Aber die Idee selbst ist doch grossartig! Gibt es denn keine anderen professionellen Anbieter von Rapid Prototyping, die an uns (End-)Verbrauchern interessiert wären? Ich könnte mir hunderte von Anwendungsfällen denken, gerade weil unsere Interessen so unterschiedlich und die benötigten Auflagen immer recht klein sind.

I agree this idea has great promise! I was told that there are two classes of these machines - one costs around 8000 Euros and one costs about 40000+ Euros. The more expensive machine does a much better job - like making masters for other models, and very fine finished models.
The lower cost machine - which MMM.com uses introduces "artifacts" like you get when you take a bitmap and display it as a vector drawing.
There is another company doing this in model railroading - Mark4design.com - and I think Steve Weidmer (steve4painting.com) has done some projects with them.
(I apologize - I need to get my German up to good standards - I will quietly listen unless there is something important to say! I model the modern OeBB here in New Jersey USA).

ich war vor ca. 2 Jahren in einer Firma als Dozent, die haben so etwas gemacht.
Irgendwann letztes Jahr waren die auch mal im TV in einer Reportage.
Wenn ihr mögt kann ich ja mal Kontakt aufnehmen.

about 2 years ago i workes as a Trainer in a company which used RM (rapid manufacturing).
If there is any interest i could try to get in cintact again with them.
Last year? they where also in a tv documentation about rapid prototyping.
