THEMA: Hood-type Switcher with Sound and uncouplers!
Vadim - 23.05.13 16:11
Hello!
Recently I made Russian Hood-type heavy Switcher TEM2 from Atlas RSD4/5.
Changes:
1) For better pickup and pulling force aluminium Fuel tank was deleted, and plumbum expanded fuel tank was inserted. The weight was increased from 67 to 87 gramms!
2) Atlas RSD4/5 has not fully powered trucks. I changed it into KATO fullypowered RSC trucks.
3) All wheels and trucks were springed for better electrical pickup!
4) Small 8 Ohm loudspeaker was inserted into fuel tank.
5) Two custom made knuckle uncouplers were inserted instead big screws.
6) Powerpack capacitor was installed into decoder for better performance.
7) Real grid was inserted at top of roof at nose for better ventilation of decoder.
8)See Video, how it works at Layout and with OPEN BODY :

9) See Video how springed trucks allow all wheels to be in touch with rails:

Hi Vadim,
nice work! What type of speaker do you use? It looks quite big...
You could also use ceramic capacitors with 100 µF, they are smaller than the tantals and you could include even more.

Hello Viele Grüße!
Thanks for respond!
As to Caps : Ceramic caps for 100mkf are awailable only for 6.3v
But I need it for 20V !
Therefore i still use tantalum chocolates!

Hi Vadim,
look here ;)
http://shop.1001-digital.de/product_info.php?products_id=29
These are 16 V capacitors, but they can be used with a bit more, too. You could also decrease the voltage on your rails to 15 or 16 V, thats enough for N.

Thanks, Viele!
I see.
But they are for 16V!
Powerpack capacitors must be exactly for 20 V, or more for safety from burning!
I use 18V DCC for my layout.
16v caps can occasionally burn with serious loco damages!

Hi Vadim,
ceramic capacitors don't explode like defective tantal or electrolyte caps. They only get damaged internally. But anyways, it was just a hint :) I use those tiny monsters with great success :)

Hello Vadim!
You can buy photoetched kit of SM48 PKP (Polish state railways) heavy shunter. It's almost the same as Russian TEM2. Here is the link:
http://www.eaos.pl/sm48-n/
Kit costs 170 PLN - it's about 40 EUR.
Here you can find some additional parts (turned brass) for building SM48/TEM2:
http://www.forum.n-orma.pl/viewtopic.php?t=2191
Find attached photos of my SM48 (PKP green) and TEM2 (red, private operated). Still unfinished. Underframe and boogies are from M62/V200/ST44 Minitrix Taigatrommel.
Hope I helped a little.

Hey Vadim,
great work as ever.
I don't get the meaning of "locos with cowls"
Ah, wait, something like this one
http://www.drehscheibe-foren.de/foren/read.php?4,4744673
the Gravita should be one of these types.
With sound yes, but no uncoupler.
http://www.brawa.de/produkte/n/lokomotiven/dies...a-10bb-br260-db.html
The uncoupling function is the problem, your solution is great and should also work for the Rapido couplers.
Cheers Björn

Du hast mir gesagt, dass Sie auch Modell von Rangierloks in Deutschland, Namen wie "Gravita"
Ich weiß auch, über Entkupplern von Lokomotiven aus Krois Unternehmen.

Hey Vadim,
there are a lot more shunting locomotives in Germany.
I think the main part takes this one here, and her sisters
http://www.bahnbilder.de/name/galerie/kategorie...eselloks~BR+363.html
larger shunting engines are this one
http://www.bahnbilder.de/name/galerie/kategorie...001-bis-294-408.html
smaller this one
http://www.bahnbilder.de/name/galerie/kategorie...eselloks~BR+332.html
old east germany locos
http://www.bahnbilder.de/name/galerie/kategorie...-60-dr-105--106.html
all are avaible as models
I have no experience with the Krois uncouplers. But it seems to work.
There are some discussions concerning the Krois uncouplers

Ok, it's german. So I just quick read it,
1 Problem: The coupler is larger then the standard rapido coupler, so you get a wider gap between the locomotive and the waggon
2 Problem: Supply seems short. You need luck to buy one.
There is one more solution for uncoupling

Thanks, Bjorn.
I also have a couple of test samples of N-Scale Krois LocoUncouplers.
But, as You allready mentioned, it seems, that it lead to biger space between cars, and require extremely straight track and precise mechanics of all cars in aim to be uncoupled.
Although my solution of Loco-uncouplers seems as quite dependable and work at wide angles and do not require big space between cars, it looks like as USA or Russian railroad standart for automatishe couplings, but it does not look like German standart for railroad couplers. Moreover, my solution requires serious loco body modifications.
